Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most — about working with us, our services, documents, the client portal, fees, and wage parity compliance.

About working with you

Do you work with clients outside of Long Island?

Yes. While our office is based in Syosset, we work with individuals and businesses across the country, and internationally where U.S. tax filings are involved. Most communication happens securely through our client portal, phone, and email, so location isn't a barrier to working together.

Will I actually work directly with Richard, or get passed to staff?

Richard Simon, CPA is your point of contact from start to finish — not a call center, and not a rotating cast of preparers you've never spoken with. You'll always know exactly who you're working with.

Do you offer virtual consultations, or is everything in-person?

All of the above. We meet clients at our Syosset office, and we're also glad to meet at your place of business if that's more convenient. For video conference meetings, we use whichever platform works best for you.

What's your typical response time for calls and emails?

Within one business day.

Services & scope

What industries do you have the most experience with?

We work with clients across real estate, healthcare, home health care, non-profits, professional services, law practices, manufacturing, and small businesses generally — along with individuals, trusts, and estates.

Do you help with IRS or state tax notices, not just filing?

Yes. We respond to most tax notices at no additional fee. If a matter escalates to a formal audit, tax audit representation is billed separately from return preparation.

What if the services I'm looking for aren't listed?

Reach out anyway. This isn't a complete list of everything we can help with — if you don't see what you need, contact our office and we'll let you know how we can assist, or point you in the right direction.

Practical / logistics

What documents do I need to bring for tax prep?

It depends on your situation, but common items include W-2s and 1099s, last year's return, mortgage interest and property tax statements, business income and expense records, and any letters from the IRS or state. We'll give you a specific checklist once we know your situation.

How does the secure client portal work?

We use a secure online client portal where you can upload documents, e-sign forms, message us directly, and view your files — all in one place, protected with encryption rather than sent over email.

How do I book a consultation?

Use the “Book a consultation” button anywhere on the site to schedule directly on Richard's calendar, or call the office at (516) 864-2722.

What are your fees based on?

Fees depend on the complexity and scope of the engagement — most work is billed by the engagement or hourly, depending on the service. We'll give you a clear understanding of cost before any work begins.

Wage Parity / AUP

Do you help home care agencies with wage parity compliance?

Yes — this is one of our focused service areas. We perform the agreed-upon procedures engagement required to support your LS 300 filing with an independent LS 301 verification.
